Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidiser commonly used as an oxygen bleach. It is a pale blue liquid, slightly more viscous than water, that appears colorless in dilute solution. It is used as a disinfectant, antiseptic, oxidiser and as rocket propellant.
Applications & Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide:
- For pulp and paper bleaching.
- Used as a cleaner and sanitiser for kitchens and food preparation surfaces
- Used as a mild bleach in laundries.
- Used in the manufacture of sodium percarbonate.
- Used as a chemical etch (with sulphuric acid) for copper surfaces in PCB manufacturing.
- Commonly used as a hair bleach (between 3% and 12%) when mixed ammonia.
- Skin whitening.
- Used as oral / mouth wash and disinfectant.
- Used to induce vomiting for animals after ingestion of rat poisons.
- Good for removing blood stains from clothing and fabrics (always test colourfastness of fabrics first before cleaning).
- Used in hydroponics.
- Used as rocket propellant
