Alkyl polyglucoside (APG)

APG surfactants are mild, nonionic products with good detergency and wetting properties. They are used in household and industrial and institution detergent formulations where high, stable foam is required, or where high caustic concentrations are necessary. These surfactants also provide excellent detergency as well as low streaking and filming performance, ideal for glass cleaners, bottle washing formulations, metal cleaners, highly alkaline detergents, paint strippers, and aluminum brighteners.

Alkyl polyglucosides (APG) are called new generation environmentally friendly surfactants. They have not been produced on the commercial scale until the nineties in the world. APGs are classified as nonionic surfactants. The feedstock of APG are based on fatty alcohol and glucose which are obtained from renewable native resources. Thus, APGs are completely biodegradable. Because of their non-toxicity, non-irritation and many excellent surface active performances, APGs are widely used in the fields of detergents. APGs are very suitable for hard surface cleaners, such as bathroom cleaners and glass cleaners because of their excellent hydration, little water spot and little residue.

Because of its strong tolerance to strong alkali, APG is very important in preparing high alkaline industrial cleaners. APG dissolves in high concentration of sodium hydroxide and keeps stable. It can also increase the solubility of non-ionic surfactant in high alkaline solution.

The another important characteristics of APG is that: it still has excellent hydration in high concentration of electrolyte solution. So APG can increase the solubility of many components, including many adjuvant materials, when in high concentration of salt solution.
