- Stability: Incompatible with Alkali metals, hydrides, nitrates, halogen-halogen compounds, perchloric acid, nonmetallic oxyhalides, acid halides, strong oxidising agents. Unsuitable working materials: various plastics, metals (in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and/or moisture).
Soluble in cold water, hot water, diethyl ether, acetone. Soluble in chloroform, ethanol, and benzene.
DMSO has many nonmedical uses — it is used as a solvent, cleaner, pesticide, paint stripper, hydraulic fluid, preservative of cells at low temperatures, and metal complexing agent.
