Copper acetate is soluble in water, alcohol and ether. It is used as a copper fungicide, a catalyst for organic reactions, a pigment for enamel and ceramics, a quick dry agent for paints, an insecticide, and a mildew preventive. Other uses include as a preservative for cellulosic materials, a stabilizer for polyurethanes and nylons, a corrosion inhibitor, and as a fuel additive. It is used in textile dyeing, anti-fouling paints, electrolysis and electroplating processes, flameproofing, printing and photocopying, and pyrotechnics. It is also used as a “shark chaser,” or repellent, developed as part of survival equipment for military personnel who fly over shark-infested waters.
