USES FOR BARIUM OXIDE
For lubricating oil, it is used as an additive and dehydrating agent. Barium oxide is mainly used as a coating for hot cathodes (superconductive material) and in certain kinds of glass such as optical crown glass and cathode ray tubes (getter agent for electronic vacuum tube in producing CRT).
Barium oxide also has use as an ethoxylation catalyst in the reaction of ethylene oxide and alcohols, which takes place between 150 and 200°C.
