Benzyl alcohol is a colourless liquid with a mild pleasant aromatic odour. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity, and low vapour pressure. It is partially soluble in water (4g/100mL) and completely miscible in alcohols and diethyl ether.
Uses for Benzyl alcohol:
- General solvent for inks and paints.
- Solvent for lacquers and epoxy resin coatings.
- Used as a photographic developer.
