FORMULATORS ALCOHOL
This is a special formulation which can be used by both professionals and amateurs who wish to make perfumes, colognes, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, cologne splashes, room sprays etc. It allows the simple addition and blending of essential oils and fragrances into solution with or without water.
Formulators alcohol is also used in the production of DIFFUSER OILS.
For details on how to make your own diffuser oils see below.
The blended solutions remain clear and free from cloudiness.
Our Formulators alcohol forms a clear solution with most fragrance oils, but some which are specifically designed for use in candle-making can cause issues. Check with your fragrance manufacturer that your oils are ethanol-soluble
The 3 main ingredients of Formulator alcohol are:
- Ethanol (denatured) - This evaporates quickly as it is warmed by skin temperature releasing the fragrances evenly over the surface.
- Isopropyl Alcohol IPA
- Dipropylene glycol - a skin safe co-solvent which allows the fragrance oils to be solubilised in the alcohol carrier. This helps to control the evaporation of the alcohol so that it does not flash off too quickly.
Typical formulas:
Product | Fragrance oils % | Formulators's alcohol % | water % |
---|---|---|---|
perfume | 15 - 30 | 75 - 85 | 0 - 10 |
eau de perfume | 8 - 15 | 80 - 90 | 10 - 20 |
eau de toilette | 4 - 8 | 80 - 90 | 10 - 20 |
eau de cologne | 3 - 5 | 65 - 70 | 30 |
cologne splash | 1 - 3 | 77 - 80 | 20 |

How to make your own DIFFUSER OIL:
- 30% Fragrance oil

- 5-10% Formulators alcohol
To make diffuser oil blend the fragrance oil with the DPG until clear. Add Formulators alcohol to reduce viscosity to desired thickness.
