Applications
Fine fragrance
-
EDP/Perfume (ethanol): 0.2–4% of the fragrance concentrate (it’s a strong top note; dose modestly).
-
Diffusers/aromatherapy: 3–6 drops per 100 mL water (device-dependent).
Personal care (skin-safe, leave-on/rinse-off)
-
Leave-on (lotions, facial/body oils): 0.05–0.3% (keep low—citral can sensitize).
-
Rinse-off (shower gel, shampoo, hand wash): 0.2–1.0%.
-
Bar soap/syndet: 0.4–1.5%; blends well with herbs/woods for a “fresh clean” profile.
Home fragrance (non–skin contact)
-
Candles / wax melts: 5–9% of wax; cures well and throws bright, lemony freshness.
-
Reed diffusers (e.g., Augeo base): 10–20% EO.
-
Room/linen sprays: 0.2–0.8% with a proper solubiliser; patch-test fabrics.
Household
-
Popular in surface cleaners, kitchen deodorisers and freshening sprays (cuts “greasy” odours).
-
Often paired with citronella/cedar/eucalyptus in outdoor blends.
Bright citral pairs beautifully with lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree, peppermint, ginger, black pepper, cedarwood, benzoin/vanilla (adds warmth and fixation).
